Rescue

Though I feel quite strongly in favor of all breeds and species, I do have my personal favorites. But they ALL deserve our protection and love.

Tally

Boxers have a special place in our hearts! We got our first Boxer in 1993 from a backyard breeder in Willits, CA. Maverick was a fabulous dog, a wonderful companion and member of our family. Our second Boxer, Winston, came to us at the age of four because his owners could not keep him. Shortly after his arrival, our boy Maverick developed Lymphoma and despite the chemotherapy drugs, he passed three months after the diagnosis. Winston was suffering from chronic renal failure and a heart defect. I decided to become as educated as I could on Boxer disorders and genetics.

By the time we moved to El Dorado County Winston's conditions had worsened. We kept his quality of life good by administering sub cutaneous fluids and a special homemade diet. We decided to "buy" a dog from a reputable breeder in Oregon, who reportedly had a very sound and healthy bloodline. I was lucky enough to have a very knowledgeable and experienced woman mentor me and help me to research the bloodlines. I took Winston with me, and we chose a gorgeous 2 year old female named "Tally". Winston helped her learn to be a wonderful family pet, and they loved each other very much. Winston passed away 5 months after Tally joined our family.

Working with Quinn on "wait!"

After many health tests, I agreed to breed her using the breeder I bought her from. The Dog's health was researched very carefully and the puppies were all quite wonderful. My girl had complications and this was a VERY expensive litter. Again, my mentor was by my side the whole time. We kept a male, and his name is Quinn. He is amazing and I use him for evaluations and as a training assistant. I have re-homed one of Quinn's brothers, and I will always be here to take in any of his litter mates. I will never breed again.

Why? Because there are too many homeless dogs that deserve a loving family. There are plenty of breeders. Though there is currently no agency to govern the RESPONSIBLE breeding of animals, someday hopefully there will be.

I began to formally volunteer for NorCal Boxer Rescue in 2005. We have fostered, rehabilitated, transported and performed home inspections. We have had many wonderful foster dogs and through this experience, I decided to gain a more formal education in Canine Behavior and Training. I want to help people stay with their dogs, and short of that, help rehabilitate the dogs that have been given up.

Due to the current state of our economy, there are more dogs and cats in shelters and rescues than ever. These are wonderful, loved pets that don't deserve the life (or lack of one) that they now endure.

Missy Davis

This has also impacted our Equine friends. People are having problems finding homes for their horses due to financial hardships and some horses are just being set free. Domestic horses lack the survival skills to find the right food and water sources, no good will come from this.

I've volunteered with several Rescues, the experience is priceless. Please consider rescuing your next family member. Please consider volunteering at a local shelter or rescue. I hope you've found this page useful. I've provided links to many rescue resources. Contact them directly for information on adoption, volunteering and other information to help the animals.
